ITV launch their most ambitious project to date – a new streaming service supported by Candyspace across iOS, Android and Apple TV.

Today marks the highly anticipated release of ITV’s new free streaming platform, ITVX.

The new platform boasts over 15,000 hours of on-demand content, over 10,000 of which are available to view for free, as well as 20 free ad-supported themed channels, alongside an enhanced live experience.

ITVX will replace the ITV Hub as the online home for all ITV content. Bringing together exclusive new commissions, the best of ITV drama, one of the largest free film libraries in the UK and brilliant documentaries, ITVX will become a premier destination for discovery.

As ITV’s long-standing strategic partner and having worked for over 10 years on the ITV Hub, Candyspace worked closely with the teams at ITV to create a new and improved user experience on ITVX.

Working in multi-disciplinary products teams, we implemented ITVX across mobile, to include both iOS and Android devices, and on Apple TV. The platform is built on an entirely new technical and user architecture, and is underpinned by an enhanced data capability.

ITV’s Chief Product Officer, Deep Bagchee, said:

“We’re really excited to launch ITVX, our new streaming service. Thank you to Candyspace who worked with us on this exciting launch and for their continued partnership."

Candyspace’s CEO, Tom Thorne, said:

“It is a huge testament to the successes of the teams across ITV and Candyspace that we celebrate the launch of arguably the UK’s most exciting and disruptive video-on-demand platform of the decade. As ITV’s strategic digital partner from the launch of the ITV Player and ITV Hub in the 2000s, it has been fantastic to see the platform evolve and truly become a product that is loved by everyone.”

The state of streaming in 2022 and beyond

The launch of ITV’s new streaming proposition comes at a significant time as traditional broadcasters are increasingly under more pressure to keep users engaged at the same rate as their younger, more agile competitors. As discussed in our latest research report produced in partnership with VOD Professional - the Streaming 100 - we evaluated over 200 streaming services in the UK against user and technical performance measures.

In 2023, Candyspace will continue to deliver a programme of ongoing optimisations and improvements to further enhance the ITVX product across mobile and Apple TV.

We interviewed ITV's Chief Product Officer, Deep Bagchee, to hear more about the release of ITVX and ITV's 2023 plans.
